Matt Noffs, CEO of the Ted Noffs Foundation, believes that a lot of young people who steal cars are addicted to the ‘rush’ they get from boasting about their crimes on social media. And that creates an opportunity to deal with the problem.

‘If you start to look at it like an addiction, you start to treat it like one and that’s how we are going to get a reduction,’ he said.

Officer in Charge of Kirwan Police Station, Matt Lyons, agreed, saying, ‘They essentially like the thrill of the chase. We’ve noticed an increase of children who go on social media to gloat about what they do.’

He added, ‘We’ve got to work together to intervene early.’
