Street University Hamilton gives young people in Newcastle a place to belong. They come to make music, take photos, build podcasts and talk to a counsellor.

The Ted Noffs Foundation runs the Street University in Hamilton. Its work in youth drug treatment, and its research with UNSW, sit behind it. In six months, 80 young people are in counselling, 200 are regular clients, and we have logged more than 1,200 check-ins.

Young people lead their own path here. As they find their rhythm, many cut down on drug use along the way.

NBN News visited Hamilton to see how it works. In their report, the Street University is described as a vital hub for young people in Newcastle, with local safety leader Paul Murphy praising its impact on Beaumont Street and the wider community.
