Matt Noffs, Ted Noffs Foundation CEO, tells ABC News Radio’s Rachel Fisher that today’s announcement marks a milestone more than a decade in the making.

Ted Noffs Foundation (Noffs) CEO Matt Noffs spoke with ABC News Radio’s Rachel Fisher after NSW Health Minister Ryan Park confirmed pill testing will become a permanent fixture at music festivals across the state from October. The announcement follows a successful 12-month trial and an independent evaluation, led by the University of Sydney, which found the service delivered real harm reduction benefits.

Matt has advocated for pill testing since 2014, when 19-year-old Georgina Bartter died at a Sydney music festival. He describes today’s announcement as an important moment, but is careful to frame it as harm reduction rather than endorsement, calling pill testing “an amber light for young people to slow down” rather than a green light to use drugs. Drawing a comparison to road safety, he says the service works the same way seat belts do: “Seat belts do not make driving safer, but they make a life saveable.”
